Discover Goa's Stories

The origin of Kaavi art is disputed, but it is believed to have developed over 600 years ago. One theory is that Kaavi art was brought to Goa by Saraswat Brahmins who migrated from the plains of the Saraswati River. Another theory is that Kaavi art evolved from the indigenous art forms of Goa. Kaavi art was used to decorate temples and shrines in Goa during the Hindu and Portuguese periods. It was also used to decorate the homes of wealthy Goans. Kaavi art is a unique and important part of Goa's cultural heritage.
